Little Hands #1 - Kasturba Old Age Home, Nedupuzha, Thrissur

Eight months since the genesis of our "Little Hands" initiative, at last, we launched into our first activity, in all its humble means. As the Sanskrit proverb goes "sreyamsi bahu vignani" (many hurdles spring up even for good things !), our first activity too had its own obstacles all over. However, it all ended in a very sublime note. Yes, just with the virtue of our undying spirit and the true support from the hearts of all of us !

Women, in her myriad roles as mother, daughter or wife are the spirit and the soul of our society.  By pure chance, for our first activity we got the opportunity to serve them in our humble way. The Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust (KGNMT), based at Indore, was established in 1945 as a result of the national endeavor, led by Mahatma Gandhi, to address the issues of women in rural India.  Kasturba Old Age Home located in the outskirts of Thrissur town is a branch of KGNMT. With 26 inmates, all old women, it runs basically from the funds of the well wishers.  As part of our first activity 3 members of our group spent around one hour with old mothers serving the lunch and having a leisure time with them.  All mothers even being in the ordeal of heart-clutching life realities, had just one thing to share to us - their heart-felt wishes which we accepted whole-heartedly.

  2. Thank you for sharing about the activity at Kasturba Old Age Home. It's heartwarming to see organizations like Little Hands League engaging with retirement homes in Chennai to support the elderly. Initiatives like these play a vital role in fostering a sense of community and companionship for seniors in their golden years. As the demand for retirement homes in chennai continues to grow, it's inspiring to witness collaborative efforts aimed at enhancing the well-being and quality of life for our elderly population. Keep up the great work in making a positive difference in the lives of seniors.
